The Journey to Yoga
Why Yoga?
I’m Laura Green, the Yogi behind Green Rituals.
I came to yoga and meditation through a period of personal struggle.
I knew this wasn’t how everyday was meant feel like and out of desperation I tried everything; conventional (counselling, etc) and unconventional (energy healing, etc). These helped some but I was still just getting through the days.
The real change didn’t happen until I found meditation. It was like a breath of fresh air. It gave me a break from the daily beat down of my own mind and a crippling pain in my chest.
Next was yoga.
I had only ever taken a few yoga classes before this period of struggle. However something deep inside of me told me I should do a yoga teacher training. Now at the time this seemed ridiculous. I was broke, my beat up old car was on its last legs, and technically I still had to be hired back into my job for the coming year. But the benefit of finding meditation was that I could not ignore a yoga teacher training was something I was meant to do.
So I took out a loan, and went off to Costa Rica for my first yoga teacher training. To say it was life changing is no exaggeration. It was like I was discovering who I was for the first time in my life. I was officially in love with yoga. Not because it had all the answers, but because it gave me the space and strength to face the hard questions, the unknowing and the discomfort. It allowed me to start to build a sense of trust in myself. And the glow of utter peace and contentment after a good shavasana helped too.
It’s been a journey of self-discovery ever since. Far from having it all figured out, yoga has continued to give me the space to heal, let go and grow.
Community is what makes GREEN RITUALS special
GREEN RITUALS
Green rituals has gone through much evolution over the years. What has grown from this is community. It is the people who show up to the classes that make green rituals truly extraordinary. At its essence Green rituals is the following:
The chats and smiles before and after class. The atmosphere of acceptance that allows everyone to show up on their mat for whatever they need; be it a good stretch, some personal space and time away, or even a good cry at times. It’s the energy felt in our collective struggle through the most difficult of poses in the class; and that giggle of relief at the end when we have all survived through a tough yoga flow.
It is the greatest honour and privilege to share yoga and meditation with each individual who shows up to practice. It is all of you that make Green Rituals something truly special.
Testimonial
I joined in March 2019 with very little experience of yoga. I would highly recommend Laura’s classes. Her passion for yoga is infectious and inspiring and one cannot help but embrace it. Laura’s watchful eye during class spots the need for physical adjustment or for reassuring encouragement when attempting more challenging poses. The benefits of the concluding Savasana and Laura’s carefully selected positive affirmations stay with me for a couple of days.
